Providing patients with as much information as possible about Visudyne therapy is an important part of managing their expectations and ensuring that all patients feel comfortable enough to proceed with proper therapy requirements and precautions. In this process, then, patients need to understand:
- What is likely to happen, when it is likely to happen, and what to expect
- What protective clothing to bring and when
- Visudyne therapy slows or stops vision loss, but it is unlikely to restore vision that has already been lost
- Visudyne therapy consists of multiple treatments
There are a variety of materials available to help educate patients and answer their questions about Visudyne therapy.
- To view Patient Education materials, click here
- To view A Patient's Guide to AMD and Visudyne Therapy brochure, click here
- To view or download the Visudyne Patient FAQs, click here
Patient education is an important part of the Visudyne experience; there is an opportunity for "face to face" time spent with patients—explaining the wet AMD disease process, treatment options, and appropriate expectations. Often, discussions need to be repeated—sometimes even at every patient visit.

- The above-mentioned materials contain the information patients need to understand AMD and PDT treatment as well as Informed Consent forms and posttreatment instructions
- By using additional PDT written materials, you can reinforce the patient's and caregiver's understanding of AMD, Visudyne, commitment to therapy, and appropriate expectations regarding potential outcomes
