We've heard anecdotally that many practices use multiple-page documents for a single PDT treatment that sometimes can take as long as 20 minutes in preparation for a treatment. Appropriate, accurate documentation is an important component of successful PDT. Conversely, inefficient documentation procedures can limit the efficiency and effectiveness of staff members.
But while the amount of documentation can at times seem daunting, this doesn't have to be the case. The answer to this potential hurdle is efficient documentation—ie, capturing all the information necessary for PDT treatments while minimizing the amount of administrative time spent on documentation and the number of pages generated.
A 1-Page Treatment Record
In an effort to reduce the amount of administrative time the PDT staff must spend on documentation, we have compiled a sample treatment sheet similar to forms being used by some practices to capture PDT procedure information. Of course, all documentation needs to comply with federal and state requirements for laser treatment, so the sample treatment sheet is meant only to serve as a guide for more efficient documentation.
